My hands are so itchy. Does anyone else get this? I'm not sure if it's the RA or the Raynaud's causing this. Naomi, X

Hi Naomi I have Raynauds, but have never suffered from itchy hands, just wondered if it could be more connected to the RA side of things. Whilst writing, since my medication has brought down all the inflammation I don t seem to suffer quite so badly with the cold, particularly my hands - so not all bad eh ? Mind you I know I won t want to be without my sheepskin mittens when walking the dogs in the winter, I never found gloves any good as they isolated my fingers !! Hope you are able to get your itchy hands sorted out. Julia xx

What medication are you on, if you don't mind me asking Julia? I take Mtx and Plaquenil for the RA and lupus type symptoms and Nifedipine and Vitamin e for the Raynaud's.

That's fine Naomi, no problem at all.
Before I got RA the GP gave me Nifedipine, but it made me feel bit weird and light headed so managed without it. On the RA side, I now take the biologic Cimzia, methotrexate 15gm by injection,,amitriptyline at night and diclofenac 75gm and folic acid and the anti/reflux and high dose of omega 3 fish oil with 952 active EPA/DHA.
Best wishes Julia xx

I hear that itchy palms are a sign of money coming your way - maybe you'll get a lottery win like Jane (tee hee)... Sorry to hear that RA is still causing such a lot of trouble - thinking of you - Sylvia xxx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

A lottery win would be just fine!
I hadn't considered that the itching might be caused by my meds. I'll speak to the consultant about it. I was told my appointment would be in August. The OT put in a reminder to the consultant for me in September....but I'm still waiting. I hope it comes through soon. Thanks everyone for your replies.

Hi Naomi I get itchy hands and sometimes rashes on my hands, but it seems to happen when they are inflammed. I've had this since before I started meds so I just presumed it was RA related Amy x

Yes Amy, I can recall terribly itchy hands during my first severe flare up, and that was before I started any RA drugs so I don't think it is the meds after all. :)

Hi Naomi Re your itchy hands, I went to the rheumy nurse yesterday - I said about my itchey legs, big red patches I've never had before (get dry skin, and have diprobase prescriped for my skin) she said the meds/flare up isn't related to my legs. So now I think central heating on a lot now?! Must get frontline for dogs! My legs gone down a bit, but left dark red "stain" or noticeable colouring. I've slapped on lots of diprobase on at bedtime with a spare old sheet over my sheets on the bed to give a good soak in the legs. Wonder if I'm run down? Got cold today. Need someone to fund a holiday to somewhere hot. I can only dream I guess! You take care. Xxx
